What's the difference between a chromatic tuner and a preset tuner?
A preset tuner, like the Drop D or Standard pages on this site, only listens for the exact notes in that tuning and shows you which of those strings you're closest to. A chromatic tuner detects any of the 12 notes across multiple octaves, so it works for alternate tunings, other instruments, and general pitch checking.
Can I tune without a microphone?
Yes. Every tuner on this site includes reference tones for each string. Tap a string in the tuner to hear its target pitch, then match it by ear, no microphone needed.
Is this accurate enough for recording?
For everyday tracking, yes. The tuner uses the YIN pitch-detection algorithm with parabolic interpolation and reads within a couple of cents in a quiet room.
