Savior Guitar Tuner: Pro is a strobe guitar tuner app for iPhone and Android. It reads pitch to 0.1 cent, works completely offline, shows no ads, needs no account, and costs one price with no subscription. It includes chromatic, standard, drop D, half step down, drop C, D standard, bass, and ukulele tunings, with A4 calibration from 432 to 446 Hz. I built it, and as of today it's live on both stores.

If you've tuned on this site over the last few months, you've already used the free web tuner. A lot of you have. The whole time, I was building the version I wanted in my own pocket backstage. That version is done.

Because most of them aren't good enough, and I say that as somebody who tunes guitars for a living.

Grab any free tuner app and play a note. The needle swings, settles somewhere near center, turns green, and you move on. What it doesn't tell you is that "green" is usually a window of 1 to 2 cents on either side of pitch. On one string that's fine. Across six strings, stacked into a chord, that's the sour, slightly chorused sound you've been blaming on your guitar.

A pro guitar tuner doesn't work like that. On the bench I use a strobe tuner, because a strobe compares the note against the target frequency continuously and shows the difference as motion. Get within a couple cents and the bands are still rolling. Get it right and they stop dead. There's no arguing with it. Most needle and clip-on tuners resolve to about 1 cent. A strobe tuner reads to 0.1 cent, and most people can hear a difference of around 5 cents on a single note, so that extra precision is exactly what makes a chord ring clean instead of almost clean. That's the tuner I wanted on my phone. I couldn't find one that did it without ads, a subscription, or a signup screen. So I built Savior Guitar Tuner: Pro.

• 0.1 cent accuracy. The strobe engine tracks the phase of the note between readings instead of taking one snapshot. A tenth of a cent shows up on screen.
• Four displays. Strobe (x1 to x8 bands), the classic needle, a clean cents readout, and a scrolling trail so you can watch a note settle.

• A4 calibration, 432 to 446 Hz. In 0.1 Hz steps. Reference tones follow the calibration, so you can tap a string and tune by ear when the room is too loud for the mic.

• Works completely offline. Basement rehearsal room, venue with no service, the van. Doesn't matter.
• Private by design. No network requests. No data collected. Nothing recorded. The mic listens for pitch and that's all it does.
